Pills treat the whole scalp with one daily step; foams and solutions put the medicine where you need it, with less reaching the rest of the body. Your physician recommends one based on your pattern, history and preferences.
Can I combine an oral and a topical treatment?
Often, yes. Oral and topical treatments can work together. Your physician reviews what you already take and recommends a safe combination.
When will I see results?
Shedding usually settles in the first two months, loss slows by three months, and visible regrowth takes around six months. Results last only while you keep using the treatment.
What are the side effects?
Topicals can irritate or dry the scalp. Finasteride and dutasteride can rarely affect sex drive or erections; minoxidil can cause unwanted hair growth or, as a pill, dizziness or swelling. Tell your physician about any change.
Is it safe for women?
Minoxidil is used by women with pattern hair loss. Finasteride and dutasteride must not be used or handled by women who are or may become pregnant. Your physician guides you to an appropriate option.
