Vitamin D, omega-3, coenzyme Q10 and ezetimibe are everyday choices. We recommend them when your labs and history give a reason, and we say what the trials did not show.
Vitamin D and omega-3 are often taken to prevent cancer and heart disease. In VITAL, a trial of 25,871 healthy adults, neither one lowered the main cancer or cardiovascular results in the general population.¹ Benefit has shown up in narrower groups, such as people on statins with high triglycerides.²
Our in-house care team of U.S.-licensed physicians and nurse practitioners starts with your history and your labs, recommends only what they support, and rechecks you over time.
lower hazard of total heart attack with 1 g a day of omega-3 (EPA and DHA), hazard ratio 0.72 (95% CI 0.59 to 0.90), in 25,871 adults followed for a median of 5.3 years. Heart attack was a secondary endpoint: the main composite of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death was not lower (hazard ratio 0.92).
VITAL omega-3 trial, N Engl J Med, 2019hazard ratio for invasive cancer with 2,000 IU a day of vitamin D3 versus placebo (95% CI 0.88 to 1.06), in the same 25,871 adults. Major cardiovascular events were not lower either (hazard ratio 0.97).
VITAL vitamin D trial, N Engl J Med, 2019lower average LDL with ezetimibe added to simvastatin (53.7 vs 69.5 mg/dL) in 18,144 patients after a recent acute coronary syndrome. The 7-year event rate fell from 34.7% to 32.7%.
IMPROVE-IT, N Engl J Med, 2015In IMPROVE-IT, adding ezetimibe to simvastatin lowered the 7-year rate of the primary cardiovascular endpoint by 2 percentage points (32.7% vs 34.7%), in patients hospitalized for an acute coronary syndrome. Cannon CP et al., N Engl J Med, 2015
These are trial averages in specific groups, not predictions for you. The vitamin D and omega-3 trials tested doses that differ from ours, and the heart attack result was a secondary endpoint. The 23% LDL figure is our calculation from the trial's average values, not a number the trial reported.
A vitamin D blood level tells you whether you are low. A lipid panel tells you whether your LDL cholesterol needs treatment. Our fully in-house care team orders the right labs, recommends what the results support, and rechecks the numbers that matter for you.
We test first, recommend what the results support, and recheck the levels that matter for you, so you know what changed and why, with plans starting at $53 a month.

The largest trial, VITAL, did not find that 2,000 IU a day of vitamin D3 lowered invasive cancer or major cardiovascular events in healthy adults. Vitamin D deficiency is still treated when a blood test shows it.
In VITAL, 1 g a day of omega-3 did not lower the main cardiovascular endpoint. In REDUCE-IT, 4 g a day of prescription EPA did, in people with high triglycerides on a statin. Our fish oil capsules are not that product, so we will explain which applies to you.
Not for everyone. The Endocrine Society recommends a blood test for people at risk of deficiency, and it does not recommend routine screening of people who are not at risk.
Ezetimibe reduces the cholesterol absorbed from the intestine and lowers LDL. In IMPROVE-IT, adding it to a statin after a recent acute coronary syndrome lowered the 7-year rate of the main cardiovascular endpoint by 2 percentage points.
The evidence is mixed. A 2018 meta-analysis found benefit, and a 2020 systematic review found none. The trials are small, so we review your symptoms and your history before adding it.
Dietary supplements are not reviewed by the FDA for safety and effectiveness before they are sold. Prescription products, including ezetimibe, require an online evaluation with a licensed medical professional who will determine if a prescription is appropriate. Individual results vary.
