What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is a three-amino-acid peptide that binds copper and circulates naturally in your blood. It was first isolated from human plasma in 1973. It signals skin and connective-tissue cells to make collagen, elastin and the proteins that hold tissue together, and it helps recruit repair cells to damaged areas. Its level in plasma drops from about 200 ng/mL at age 20 to about 80 ng/mL by age 60.

Important safety information and common side effects
Skin and longevity peptides are generally well tolerated. Common, mild effects include redness, itching or a small bump at the injection site, headache, flushing, fatigue or vivid dreams in the first days, and, with CJC-1295, water retention or tingling in the hands. GHK-Cu contains copper: tell your physician about Wilson's disease or copper sensitivity. Because these peptides support cell growth and, in Epithalon's case, telomerase, they are not prescribed with an active cancer, a cancer under evaluation, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Stop and seek care for hives, swelling of the face or lips or trouble breathing. Tell your physician about every medication you take.
The research behind
GHK-Cu.
A copper-binding tripeptide studied for skin repair. Most of the evidence is from cell and tissue work and small cosmetic studies.

In a randomized study of skin after CO2 laser resurfacing, creams with GHK-Cu gave no significant difference from the control regimen for erythema, wrinkles or objective skin quality. Patients were more satisfied with their skin when they used GHK-Cu.

What the studies found
- After CO2 laser resurfacing, patients were more satisfied with their skin when they used GHK-Cu creams, though objective measures did not differ from control (Arch Facial Plast Surg 2006).
- Cell and tissue studies report effects on collagen, elastin and the enzymes that remodel them; these are unproven as benefits in people (systematic review, PMC 2026).
- Most wrinkle and skin-quality claims rest on small trials and cosmetic reports; no large controlled human trial has shown a benefit (systematic review, PMC 2026).
Injected or compounded GHK-Cu was not the product studied in these skin trials; the studies used topical creams and serums.
What this does not say
- We found no head-to-head trial that compares GHK-Cu with retinoids.
- Whether the peptide reaches useful depths in the skin is not settled.
- No trial of injected GHK-Cu, alone or with epithalon, was found.
